Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) on Saturday concluded its maiden Digital Literacy for Ikorodu Trades training, with participants receiving practical lessons on using digital tools and skills to grow their businesses. The four-week training, organised by the university, began on Saturday, April 10, 2026, and ended on May 2, 2026.
Vice-Chancellor Highlights Benefits
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Professor Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, said the initiative reflected the benefits universities bring to their host communities and demonstrated the town-and-gown relationship under the institution's “IMPACT” agenda. He welcomed participants to the closing ceremony and thanked the training team for what he described as outstanding devotion to the course.
Odusanya said participants were taught content creation, advertising, business promotion, strategies, and business analytics during the training. According to him, the goal was for participants to apply the knowledge gained and succeed in their businesses.
“Our expectations are high. We expect you will be able to develop effective social media strategy, high quality video content, compelling advertisements for your business and make more money,” he said.
Digital Presence vs. Manual Methods
He noted that participants now had a choice between continuing with manual methods of promoting their businesses through word of mouth, personal contact and static billboards, or establishing a digital presence that would make them visible globally. The Vice-Chancellor said the role of the university and trainers was to guide and teach, while the responsibility of applying the knowledge and producing results rested with the participants.
He advised them to improve themselves, ensure their email addresses were functional, become better at graphics and branding, and remain excellence-minded. Odusanya also encouraged them to invest in themselves, build strong networks, use data productively and work within the law. He added that the university would monitor their progress and how well they apply what they had learnt.
“I congratulate you and charge you to go and grow your business. May you soar and become a blessing to yourself, your household and your community,” he said.

A total of 20 participants took part in the maiden edition of the training. At the closing ceremony, organisers announced the best trainees based on presentations made during the programme.
