MultiChoice Group has announced that all 104 matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be broadcast live on its SuperSport platforms across English and Portuguese-speaking African countries. The pay-TV company confirmed that subscribers on DStv, DStv Stream, GOtv, and GOtv Stream will have access to the tournament from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
Historic Tournament with Expanded Format
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first to feature 48 teams, an increase from the previous 32-nation format. This expansion makes it the longest and biggest tournament in FIFA history, with 104 matches scheduled. The competition will be hosted across Mexico, Canada, and the United States, beginning in Mexico City on June 11 and concluding with the final in New Jersey on July 19.
Accessible to All DStv Subscribers
MultiChoice Group, a subsidiary of CANAL+, described the tournament as the "most accessible World Cup ever" for its customers. Subscribers from DStv Access to DStv Premium packages will have access to all live matches, highlights, and repeats. The company stated that this inclusive approach ensures that every subscriber can enjoy the global sporting event.
Rendani Ramovha, CANAL+ Director for Content and Sports in English and Portuguese-speaking Africa, expressed excitement about bringing the historic tournament to African audiences. He noted that Africa will have its largest-ever representation, with 10 countries qualifying from the Confederation of African Football. The qualified nations include Ghana, South Africa, Senegal, Cape Verde, Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Special Programming and African Language Broadcasts
SuperSport will introduce special programmes, magazine shows, and football masterclasses featuring experts from across Africa and the world. Broadcasts will be tailored to local cultures and African languages, ensuring a unique viewing experience for diverse audiences.
The FIFA World Cup coverage will be available in 27 African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Subscribers seeking more information on packages and streaming access can visit DStv, GOtv Africa, and SuperSport platforms.
No Price Increase for DStv Subscriptions
In a related development, MultiChoice has confirmed that DStv subscription prices will remain unchanged in 2026, deviating from its usual annual price adjustments. This move is part of the company's strategy to win back lost subscribers amid competition from streaming services. Additionally, MultiChoice is introducing new cost-sharing tools, including a bill-splitting feature on the MyDStv app, to enhance customer experience.
