The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has successfully concluded a rigorous five-day indoctrination program for its newly recruited officers. The intensive training, aimed at the first batch of entrants into the critical Flight Standards Group (FSG), wrapped up today at the agency's Lagos regional office annexe within the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) complex.
Leadership Emphasizes Technical Backbone
In his address, the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, highlighted the significance of the program. He stated that this indoctrination, alongside other internal trainings, underscores management's unwavering commitment to staff development and enhancing technical skills across all FSG directorates.
Najomo stressed that the FSG serves as the technical core of the NCAA and must therefore be manned by exceptionally skilled and qualified professionals. He clarified that the training was a compulsory requirement designed to meet the standards of Training Category One under the NCAA's Inspector Training System (ITS).
The DGCA urged all participants to remain focused, participate actively, and maximize the opportunity to bolster their professional expertise.
Commitment to Regulatory Excellence
The Director of Airworthiness and Chairman of the FSG, Godwin Balang, expressed his gratitude to Captain Najomo for his steadfast support and personal involvement in the indoctrination initiatives. Balang reaffirmed the group's dedication to upholding the highest levels of professionalism and excellence in executing its regulatory duties.
Adding her voice, the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr. Anastasia Gbem, reminded attendees of the NCAA's enormous responsibility as Nigeria's sole civil aviation regulator. She credited the authority's recent significant achievements to the exemplary leadership provided by the Director-General.
Scope of the Flight Standards Group
The Flight Standards Group is a pivotal cluster of directorates within the NCAA that jointly shoulder safety oversight responsibilities. This comprehensive group includes:
- The Directorate of Airworthiness
- The Directorate of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards
- The Directorate of Operations, Licensing and Training Standards
- The Directorate of Legal Services and Company Secretary (DLS&CS)
The week-long program, which commenced on Monday, is a clear investment in building a robust and technically sound workforce to safeguard Nigeria's airspace.
