The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially signed a concession agreement for the management of Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, marking a significant step in the modernization of the country's aviation infrastructure through public-private partnerships. The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, emphasized that the concession process involved extensive negotiations with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and consultations with aviation unions to ensure full protection of workers' rights.
Keyamo stressed that airport workers have not been retrenched and their employment conditions remain unchanged, with staff continuing as employees of the federal government and FAAN. This assurance addresses concerns about job security amid the transition to private management.
