Turkish Airlines Announces Major Executive Management Restructuring
Turkish Airlines, the national flag carrier of Turkey, has officially implemented a comprehensive restructuring of its executive management framework. This strategic move aligns directly with the airline's long-term corporate objectives and growth ambitions in the global aviation sector. The changes encompass pivotal appointments to both the Board of Directors and the crucial Chief Executive Officer position, signaling a new chapter for the airline.
Prof. Murat Şeker Appointed as Chairman of the Board
Prof. Murat Şeker, a seasoned executive with an extensive background in finance and aviation, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines. Prof. Şeker brings a wealth of experience, having served the airline for many years in critical roles, most notably as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). In that capacity, he was responsible for overseeing finance, treasury operations, accounting, procurement, and investor relations, providing a solid financial foundation for the carrier's operations.
Prof. Şeker's academic credentials are equally impressive. He earned his undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from Marmara University in 2000, followed by a Master’s Degree in Economics from Sabancı University and a PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota. His professional journey includes significant international exposure, such as serving as an Economist at the World Bank from 2008 to 2013. During this tenure, he was actively involved in various operational projects and was responsible for producing policy reports and academic studies focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, international trade, and economic growth in developing countries.
Between 2013 and 2016, Şeker worked at Ziraat Bank as the Senior Vice President of the Financial Institutions and Investor Relations Department. In this role, he managed international funding initiatives and oversaw relationships with all financial institutions and investors. Additionally, he served as a Board Member for several subsidiaries, including Ziraat Investment, Ziraat Private Pension, and Ziraat Insurance. Since joining Turkish Airlines as CFO in July 2016, he has been a Member of the Board and the Executive Committee from March 2021 and also serves as a Board Member of Turkish Technic and SunExpress.
Prof. Şeker's influence extends to the global aviation community, as he has been a member of the Financial Advisory Council established by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) since 2024 and has served as its Chair since 2025. This council plays a vital role in advising the IATA Board of Directors and related bodies on policy issues concerning financial sector services within the aviation industry.
