The Zamfara State Government has taken a significant step towards enhancing the security of the upcoming Gusau International Airport. On 7 January 2026, the site for constructing a crucial security trench boundary was formally handed over to the project contractor.
Coordinated Handover for Enhanced Security
The handover ceremony was a collaborative effort led by the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure. It involved key stakeholders including the Zamfara State Geographic Information System (ZAGIS), the Ministry of Security and Home Affairs, and representatives from various security agencies. This coordinated approach underscores the government's commitment to integrating robust security measures from the ground up.
The leader of the delegation from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Amiru Musa Anka, emphasized that this collaboration is vital for accelerating the airport's completion. He stated it aligns the project with both national and international best practices for aviation security and infrastructure development.
Site Details and Community Assurance
The designated area will be used for essential security installations. The scope of work includes the trench boundary itself, perimeter fencing, and other protective measures necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the Gusau International Airport.
Prior to the handover, all necessary groundwork was completed. Officials from ZAGIS and the Ministry of Lands confirmed that all documentation, boundary delineations, and land verification processes were finalized. This ensures a smooth transfer to the contractor and helps prevent any future disputes.
Following the site inspection, the committee engaged with the local community to secure their support. They paid a courtesy visit to the community leader, Uban Kasar Rawayya, Alhaji Rashi, who pledged the community's full cooperation and commitment to the project's success.

In a related visit, the committee met with the Chairman of the Host Community/Compensation Committee, Arch. A. A. Gusau. He assured the delegation that all matters related to compensation would be handled appropriately, following government regulations to ensure fairness and transparency for affected individuals.
The Ministry reaffirmed that the Gusau International Airport remains a flagship project of the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal. The airport is envisioned as a catalyst for boosting economic activities, improving connectivity, strengthening security operations, and opening Zamfara State to greater domestic and international investment.
