NAICOM Confirms Seven More Insurers Meet Capital

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has confirmed that seven more insurance companies have satisfied the new capital requirements, bringing the total number of compliant firms to 14. This was disclosed in a statement by the commission's Head of Corporate Affairs, Mrs. ‘Tope Adaramola, on Tuesday.

Progress in Recapitalization

The seven newly compliant companies include ABC Insurance, XYZ Life Assurance, and others. They join the seven previously confirmed firms, marking significant progress in the industry's recapitalization exercise. According to NAICOM, the exercise aims to strengthen the sector's capacity to underwrite larger risks and enhance financial stability.

“We are pleased with the response from the industry. The pace of compliance is encouraging, and we urge remaining companies to expedite their recapitalization processes,” Adaramola stated.

Impact on the Industry

The recapitalization is expected to boost the insurance sector's contribution to the national economy. With more companies meeting the requirements, the industry is better positioned to support large-scale projects and provide robust coverage for policyholders. Analysts believe this will increase competition and improve service delivery.

NAICOM had set a deadline for all insurance companies to meet the new capital requirements, which vary by category. The commission has warned that non-compliant firms will face sanctions, including potential revocation of licenses.

As the deadline approaches, stakeholders are watching closely to see how many more companies will meet the requirements. The commission has assured that it will continue to monitor compliance and provide guidance where necessary.
