Wema Bank Closes Children’s CEO Contest Entries May 20

Wema Bank has issued a final call for entries for the 2026 edition of its One-Day MD/CEO initiative, with submissions set to close on May 20, 2026. The programme, launched in May 2025 as part of the bank’s 80th anniversary celebrations, offers children and teenagers across Nigeria the chance to serve as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the bank for one day in honour of Children’s Day.

Inspired by Anniversary Theme

The bank explained that the initiative was inspired by its anniversary theme, “80 Years of Impact, A Future of Possibilities.” It aims to encourage young Nigerians to envision themselves in leadership positions and explore future career opportunities within the financial sector.

Success of Inaugural Edition

The first edition gained national attention in 2025 when 12-year-old Chiderije Mbah emerged winner and acted as the bank’s MD/CEO for a day on Children’s Day. Parents and stakeholders widely commended the programme for fostering leadership development and ambition among children.
