Apapa Council Disburses N30m to 300 Residents in Phase Two

The Executive Chairman of Apapa Local Council, Idowu Adejumoke Senbanjo, has officially launched the second phase of the Apapa Constituency Residents’ Palliative Economic Generic Data initiative. This programme aims to alleviate economic hardship at the grassroots level.

During a ceremony held at the council headquarters, 300 residents received cash grants of N100,000 each, bringing the total disbursement for this phase to N30 million. This follows the successful first phase, which also provided financial support to 300 residents, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 600 so far.

Senbanjo emphasized that the initiative is a sustained intervention rather than a one-off exercise. She stated, "We are giving 4,000 people N100,000 each. This will continue for the next 11 to 12 months. We have already completed phase one, and this is phase two, meaning we have now reached 600 people."

The scheme is open to all Nigerians residing or working in Apapa, with a registration and identification process designed to ensure that support reaches genuine residents. The programme targets 4,000 beneficiaries over the next year.

Senbanjo added that beyond general financial relief, the grants have provided critical support for residents facing medical emergencies. Some beneficiaries have used the funds to address urgent health needs. She noted that the council’s intervention aligns with the broader economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the support of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

She concluded, "As long as Mr President is giving us the subsidy, we will ensure that the money and the benefits reach people at the grassroots."
