Ghana to Host Africa's Premier Workplace Safety Congress AfriSAFE in 2026
Ghana is poised to become the continental hub for workplace safety and sustainability as it prepares to host Africa's premier gathering on these critical issues. This significant development follows the signing of a strategic partnership in Accra earlier this month between AfriSAFE, the Ghana Electrical Contractors' Association (GECA), and the Ghana Institute of Safety and Environmental Professionals (GhISEP).
Strategic Partnership to Strengthen Safety Frameworks
According to Femi Da-Silva, the CEO of AfriSAFE, this landmark partnership will create a robust platform to strengthen occupational safety and sustainability frameworks across Africa. The initiative aims to promote proactive risk prevention strategies and foster cross-border collaboration among key stakeholders who are shaping the future of workplace safety on the continent.
Da-Silva emphasized that the agreement will see Accra host the 8th edition of the AfriSAFE Africa Safety Congress & Awards from November 5 to 6, 2026. This event will position Ghana as a continental leader in safety leadership, professional collaboration, and industry dialogue, bringing together experts from various sectors to address pressing safety challenges.
Roles of Partner Organizations
Under the comprehensive partnership framework, GECA will play a crucial role in supporting industry engagement and electrical safety advocacy within the broader AfriSAFE programme. Mr Awal Sakib Mohammed, President of GECA, highlighted the association's commitment to enhancing electrical safety standards through this collaboration.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Institute of Safety and Environmental Professionals (GhISEP) will provide essential professional leadership support for the congress. Dr Miriam Eduful, President of GhISEP, noted that the institute will work to align the congress programme with national occupational safety priorities while strengthening engagement among safety professionals across Africa.
Impact on Continental Safety Standards
The hosting of this prestigious congress represents a significant milestone for Ghana's leadership in workplace safety initiatives. By bringing together safety professionals, industry leaders, and policymakers from across Africa, the event is expected to:
- Develop comprehensive safety frameworks that address regional challenges
- Promote knowledge sharing and best practices in occupational safety
- Enhance collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders
- Advance sustainability goals through improved workplace practices
This initiative comes at a crucial time as African nations increasingly recognize the importance of workplace safety in driving economic growth and protecting workers' wellbeing. The 2026 congress in Accra is anticipated to set new benchmarks for safety standards across the continent while showcasing Ghana's commitment to professional excellence in this vital field.
