The Executive Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Idowu Adejumoke Senbanjo, has launched the second phase of the Apapa Constituency Residents’ Palliative Economic Generic Data (ACREPEGED) initiative, disbursing ₦30 million to 300 residents. The event took place at the council headquarters, where each beneficiary received ₦100,000.
Expanding Reach and Impact
This phase follows a successful first phase, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 600. Senbanjo emphasized that the program is a long-term commitment, aiming to reach 4,000 residents over the next 11 to 12 months. “We are giving 4,000 people ₦100,000 each. This will continue for the next 11 to 12 months. We have already done phase one and this is phase two, which means we have now reached 600 people,” she stated.
Inclusive and Needs-Based Distribution
The Chairman stressed that the initiative transcends political and group affiliations, focusing strictly on residency and need. “Open to all Nigerians residing or working in Apapa. A registration and identification system ensures funds reach genuine residents,” she explained. The program targets 4,000 beneficiaries over the next year, providing financial relief and serving as a lifeline for those facing medical emergencies.
During the event, Senbanjo shared moving accounts of how the ₦100,000 grants have already saved lives. She noted that this local intervention aligns with the broader economic strategies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. “As long as Mr. President is giving us the subsidy, we will find ways that the money and the benefits can get to the people in the grassroots,” she added.
Long-Term Commitment to Grassroots Development
The ACREPEGED initiative is part of a sustained effort to alleviate economic pressure at the grassroots level. With phase two completed, the program continues to demonstrate a commitment to supporting residents through direct financial assistance. The Chairman reaffirmed that the disbursements will proceed monthly until the target of 4,000 beneficiaries is met, ensuring that the benefits of government subsidies reach those who need them most.
