Carloha Nigeria, the official franchise holder and assembler of Chery vehicles in Nigeria, has introduced the Chery Q, a compact electric hatchback designed for Nigerian motorists. The model offers an estimated 400-kilometre range under the NEDC testing standard and can fast-charge from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in 16.5 minutes.
Design and Space Efficiency
The Chery Q draws inspiration from Chery International's popular QQ family while combining a compact body with electric power, intelligent technology, and modern safety systems. Developed around the theme "Quest for Joy," the vehicle targets young professionals, families, and urban drivers seeking a connected and environmentally friendly car.
The exterior design has earned both the Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award, featuring geometric styling, rounded LED lighting, and a contemporary two-tone cabin. Despite its compact appearance, the Chery Q achieves an 85 per cent space-efficiency ratio. It measures 4,195mm in length with a 2,700mm wheelbase.
The luggage compartment offers 375 litres of space, expandable to 1,450 litres. A 70-litre front trunk and 38 storage compartments provide additional room for carrying belongings.
Performance and Safety Technology
The Chery Q uses a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive platform with independent suspension and balanced weight distribution. Electric Power Steering and One-Box Brake-by-Wire technology aim to deliver responsive handling, effective braking, and improved energy recovery.
Safety is supported by a Level 2 Intelligent Driver Assistance System with more than 20 functions. These include Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent High Beam Control, a 540-degree panoramic camera, and Automated Parking Assist.
Inside, the vehicle features a 15.6-inch high-definition touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor. Other technology features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, intelligent voice control, 50W wireless charging, and remote vehicle management through a mobile application.
Charging and Ownership Benefits
For electric driving, the Chery Q's fast-charging system reduces waiting time for motorists. The vehicle also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing owners to use the vehicle's battery to power compatible electrical devices and equipment.
The vehicle comes with CarlohaCare 6-6-7, which provides a six-year warranty, six years of free servicing, and a seven-day repair commitment. Customers are entitled to a courtesy car if repairs are not completed within seven days.
As electric vehicles continue to gain acceptance in Nigeria, the Chery Q's combination of range, charging speed, and ownership support positions it as a practical option for urban mobility.
