In a landmark move for Nigeria's industrial sector, Dangote Group has revealed a strategic partnership with global technology giant Honeywell International Inc. to drive the next phase of expansion at the massive Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
Ambitious Expansion Targets
The collaboration aims to significantly boost the refinery's processing capacity to an impressive 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028. This expansion represents a crucial step toward realizing Dangote's long-term vision of constructing the world's largest petroleum refining complex.
Through this agreement, Honeywell will provide specialized catalysts, advanced equipment, and cutting-edge process technologies. These resources will enable the refinery to efficiently process a wider variety of crude oil grades while simultaneously improving product quality and operational reliability.
Strengthening a Proven Partnership
Honeywell, a Fortune 100 industrial and technology leader, brings extensive expertise across multiple sectors including aviation, automotive, industrial automation, and advanced materials. The company's UOP division has maintained a technology partnership with Dangote since 2017, consistently supplying proprietary refining systems and specialized equipment.
The existing collaboration has included catalyst regeneration equipment, high-performance column trays, and heat exchanger technologies that have supported Dangote's best-in-class operations.
Beyond Refining: Petrochemical and Fertilizer Growth
The partnership extends beyond petroleum refining into significant petrochemical expansion. Dangote Group is scaling its polypropylene production capacity to 2.4 million metric tons annually using Honeywell's advanced Oleflex technology. Polypropylene serves as a critical industrial material with widespread applications in packaging, manufacturing, and automotive industries.
Simultaneously, Dangote is advancing its fertilizer growth strategy in Nigeria. The company plans to dramatically increase urea production capacity from the current 3 million metric tons to 9 million metric tons annually. The expansion involves adding four new production trains to the existing two trains of 1.5 million metric tons each, addressing growing demand for high-quality fertilizer across African and global markets.
This comprehensive expansion strategy underscores Dangote Group's unwavering commitment to delivering world-class industrial capacity, strengthening Nigeria's energy security, and driving sustainable economic growth through long-term investment, innovation, and strategic global partnerships.
