Nigerian Diesel Prices Fall 2.57% Year-on-Year in November 2025
Diesel Prices Drop 2.57% Year-on-Year in Nigeria

New official figures indicate a welcome decrease in the cost of diesel for Nigerian consumers and businesses. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a significant year-on-year decline in the average retail price of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, for the month of November 2025.

National Price Trend Shows Annual Decline

According to the NBS Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel) Price Watch Report for November 2025, the average price paid by consumers stood at N1,409.61 per litre. This represents a 2.57% decrease compared to the average price of N1,446.83 per litre recorded in the same month of the previous year, November 2024.

However, the data also reveals a slight monthly increase. When compared to October 2025, where the average price was N1,398.57 per litre, the November figure shows a marginal rise of 0.79% on a month-on-month basis.

State-by-State Breakdown: Highest and Lowest Prices

The report provides a detailed geographical analysis, showing considerable variation in diesel costs across Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The top three states with the highest average diesel prices in November 2025 were:

  • Niger State: N1,477.57 per litre
  • Jigawa State: N1,477.31 per litre
  • Enugu State: N1,468.29 per litre

Other states in the top ten for high prices included Kaduna, Plateau, Kano, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Osun, and Lagos.

Conversely, consumers in several states enjoyed significantly lower prices. The states with the lowest average retail prices for diesel were:

  • Kebbi State: N1,308.94 per litre
  • Katsina State: N1,315.78 per litre
  • Nasarawa State: N1,325.29 per litre

Edo State and the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) also featured among the locations with the most affordable diesel, priced at N1,327.37 and N1,370.18 per litre respectively.

Regional Analysis and Broader Energy Context

On a zonal basis, the South East geopolitical zone recorded the highest average price at N1,419.34 per litre. The North East followed closely at N1,411.38, with the South West at N1,416.99.

The South South zone posted the lowest zonal average at N1,400.58 per litre. The North Central and North West zones averaged N1,406.16 and N1,406.00 per litre respectively.

This news on diesel pricing comes amidst other developments in Nigeria's energy sector. Recently, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited reduced pump prices for Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) in major cities like Lagos and Abuja. This adjustment followed a price cut initiated by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, with partner filling station MRS reportedly selling petrol for as low as N739 per litre in some locations.

The fluctuation in diesel prices remains a critical indicator for the economy, impacting transportation, manufacturing, and power generation costs for many businesses and households across the nation.
