Nigerians can breathe easier this festive season as the country's petroleum regulator has confirmed adequate supplies of essential fuels across the nation.
Regulator's Assurance on Fuel Availability
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) issued a crucial statement on Thursday, November 13, 2025, assuring citizens that sufficient petroleum products are available to meet consumption demands during the peak holiday period.
According to the authority, both local refineries and imports are contributing to robust domestic supply of petrol (PMS), diesel (AGO), and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This ensures timely replenishment of stocks at storage depots and retail stations nationwide.
Government Suspends Import Duty
In significant relief for consumers and marketers, the NMDPRA confirmed that the previously proposed 15% ad-valorem import duty on imported Premium Motor Spirit and diesel will no longer be implemented.
The authority strongly advised against hoarding, panic buying, or artificial price inflation of petroleum products, emphasizing that non-market reflective price increases are unnecessary given the current supply situation.
Market Response and Price Changes
Meanwhile, private depot owners have responded to market conditions by reducing their petroleum product prices below Dangote's rates. Diesel prices have dropped to N940 per litre at private depots, undercutting Dangote by N10.
For petrol, the situation varies with Dangote maintaining the most competitive pricing, while general market prices range between N857 and N890 per litre across different depots.
The NMDPRA commended stakeholders in the midstream and downstream petroleum sectors for their continued efforts to maintain smooth and uninterrupted supply chains. The regulator pledged to closely monitor supply levels and take appropriate regulatory measures to prevent any disruption in the distribution of petroleum products across Nigeria.
