Kaduna and Zamfara Advance Energy Goals at London Summit

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has spearheaded high-level engagements at the Kaduna Electric Franchise Energy Summit in London, reinforcing the state's commitment to sustainable power and economic expansion. According to a statement by Commissioner for Information Ahmed Maiyaki, the summit is a pivotal component of Governor Sani's broader agenda focused on industrialization, investment attraction, and shared prosperity, with reliable energy identified as a crucial enabler.

The statement emphasized that Governor Sani's participation underscores Kaduna's dedication to strategic partnerships and regional collaboration to enhance energy access and accelerate development. He was joined by counterparts from Zamfara and Kebbi, Governors Dauda Lawal and Nasir Idris, to foster regional cooperation and engage with investors and stakeholders on scalable energy solutions.

Major Investment and Regional Initiatives

A significant development at the summit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ASI Engineering Limited to drive power sector reform and infrastructure expansion. Commissioner Maiyaki detailed: "Kaduna State will invest N15 billion for a 5.54 per cent equity stake in the company — translating to an indirect 4.13 per cent stake in Kaduna Electric." He added that this investment is a deliberate step to secure Kaduna's energy future, power industrial growth, and improve livelihoods.

Similarly, Governor Lawal of Zamfara advocated for robust regional investment at the event, themed 'Driving Energy Investment and Regional Development'. The summit prioritized investment opportunities within the Kaduna Electric franchise area and the operationalization of the 2023 Electricity Act, with a focus on unlocking private sector participation and enhancing energy access across the region.

Zamfara's Energy Strategy and Policy Alignment

The Zamfara government has been committed to creating an enabling environment to attract investment and promote efficient electricity generation, distribution, and management. The state is exploring new opportunities under the Electricity Act 2023, including expanded regulatory powers granted to states and strategic pathways to strengthen electricity governance, improve market efficiency, and accelerate power access across communities.

Under Governor Lawal, Zamfara's energy policy has been tailored to align with the new electricity policy bill and ongoing national power sector reforms. The state established the Zamfara electricity agency, mandated to power rural and urban communities primarily through renewable energy, reflecting a forward-looking approach to regional development.
