Dangote Group Reaffirms Commitment to Industrial Growth and MSME Support in Nigeria

The Dangote Group has reiterated its steadfast commitment to enhancing Nigeria's industrial capacity and bolstering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), emphasizing their critical role in economic development. Speaking at the 37th International Trade Fair organized by the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (ECCIMA), Olatunbosun Jinadu, the South East Regional Director of Dangote Cement, highlighted the persistent challenges faced by MSMEs, including high energy costs, expensive raw materials, and inadequate infrastructure.

Addressing MSME Challenges Through Strategic Vision

Jinadu noted that the trade fair, themed "Empowering MSMEs for Global Competitiveness," serves not merely as a product exhibition but as a clarion call to strengthen these enterprises, which form the backbone of both local and global economies. He detailed that Dangote Group's recently announced growth strategy, Vision 2030, is poised to address many of these challenges, particularly in areas such as feedstock and energy supply. This long-term strategy focuses on industrial expansion and investments aimed at fostering Africa's self-sufficiency in key sectors.

Expansion Plans and Economic Impact

According to Jinadu, the group's ambitious plans include:

  • Increasing the capacity of the Dangote Refinery from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day.
  • Scaling fertiliser production to twelve million metric tonnes annually.
  • Boosting output at its polypropylene plant, which produces materials used in packaging, textiles, and other industries.

He explained that polypropylene, due to its lightweight and moisture-resistant properties, is essential for manufacturing containers, bottles, food packaging, fibres, ropes, and fabrics. The increased availability of this material is expected to alleviate some of the operational hurdles faced by MSMEs, thereby supporting their growth and competitiveness.

Emphasis on Local Production and Self-Reliance

Jinadu stressed that Nigeria's economic transformation must be anchored on local production and industrial self-reliance. "We are expanding our capacity because of our conviction that Nigeria's economic transformation must be anchored on local production and industrial self-reliance. Dangote Group is proud to be a key private sector driver translating these ideas into tangible economic results," he stated. He also encouraged stakeholders to explore partnership opportunities with Dangote's various business units during the fair.

Recognition from ECCIMA Leadership

In his remarks, ECCIMA President Nnanyelugo Onyemelukwe praised Dangote Group's unwavering commitment to the growth of the domestic economy. He said, "It is obvious that Dangote Group has added a lot of value to the growth of the Nigerian economy, operating in almost every sector and still expanding robustly. The group's entrepreneurial influence has spread across many parts of Africa, employing thousands globally, with at least 85 percent being Nigerians. Indeed, Dangote Group is the pride of Nigeria and Africa at large."

This reaffirmation by Dangote Group underscores its pivotal role in driving industrial advancement and supporting the MSME sector, which is vital for sustainable economic progress in Nigeria and beyond.
