In a significant move to bolster economic resilience, the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden has provided a vital financial boost to eight widows residing in the Ikota community. This initiative was a cornerstone of the club's activities to mark the International Month of Economic and Community Development.
A Gesture of Economic Support
The event, which took place on 22 November 2025, saw the club, operating under District 9112, disburse a total of N400,000 to the beneficiaries. Each of the eight widows received ₦50,000 to directly support and expand their small-scale businesses. This effort underscores the club's long-standing commitment to creating sustainable impact and fostering economic empowerment among vulnerable groups.
Leadership Calls for Collective Action
Dr. Christiana Okenla, the President of the Lekki Golden Rotary Club, addressed the gathering, highlighting the broader societal duty towards vulnerable populations. She passionately detailed the club's dedication to uplifting disadvantaged members of the community. Dr. Okenla urged the public to forge stronger collaborations with government bodies to alleviate the widespread hardship in various communities. She stressed that a collective effort is indispensable for achieving meaningful and lasting development.
"Everyone has a role to play in helping vulnerable groups," Dr. Okenla stated. "We are teaching compassion and love so that when beneficiaries and their children grow, they can also make a positive impact and be the change they want to see in the world."
Community Appreciation and Beneficiary Impact
