AMJON to recognise Ahmed, Funmilayo, others at confab

The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) is set to recognise several distinguished personalities at its upcoming conference, including an accomplished entrepreneur and global peace advocate, Dr. Prevail Ahmed; renowned marine surveyor and logistics consultant, Dr. Festus Nwiue; and Deputy President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Hannah Funmilola.

Conference Details

The event is scheduled for Friday, April 30, 2026, at Rockview Hotel in Apapa, Lagos. It will bring together key stakeholders from Nigeria’s maritime, logistics, and blue economy sectors to deliberate on emerging challenges and opportunities in port operations and technological advancement. The theme of the conference is ‘Attaining Port Efficiency in the Face of Emerging Technology.’

Awardees and Recognition

AMJON President Vera Osokpo congratulated the awardees, describing the honours as well-deserved. She reminded them of the greater responsibility that comes with the recognition. Discussions at the conference are designed to shape policy conversations and set the agenda for the continued growth of the marine and blue economy sector.

According to the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Raymond Tedunjaiye, all nominees underwent a rigorous screening process and were carefully selected for various award categories, including Most Distinguished Female Entrepreneur of the Year, Most Resourceful Port Manager of the Year, and Most Outstanding Port Infrastructure Personality of the Year, among others.

Tedunjaiye noted that previous AMJON conferences have remained credible platforms for constructive dialogue on critical issues affecting Nigeria’s maritime industry and the broader economy. He assured participants of an enriching and impactful conference.

Expected Participants

Participants expected at the conference include representatives from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigeria Police Force, maritime labour unions, terminal operators, and the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

Additional Honourees

Others to be honoured include accomplished freight forwarder and maritime stakeholder Chukwumalu Emeka; Emmanuel Anda, Port Manager of Lekki Deep Seaport; Olaide Olaiya, container logistics provider; Dr. Atoloye Adebowale Joseph, freight forwarding and logistics icon; and Abdullahi-Lagos Abiola, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Lagos Free Trade Zone Command.
