Simplified Travel to Asia for Nigerian Passport Holders
Nigerian passport holders can now access several Asian countries with visa-on-arrival (VoA) or Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA), making travel easier for tourism, business, and short visits. These systems reduce paperwork and processing times, offering greater flexibility.
Countries Offering Visa-on-Arrival or eTA
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka offers an eTA online before departure. The process is straightforward and takes only a few days. The island nation is known for beaches, tea plantations, wildlife reserves, and Buddhist heritage.
Maldives
The Maldives grants Nigerian travellers a visa on arrival for short stays. Requirements include a valid passport, proof of accommodation, sufficient funds, and a return or onward ticket. The destination is famous for white-sand beaches and luxury resorts.
Timor-Leste
Timor-Leste offers visa-on-arrival at designated airports and border crossings for Nigerian citizens. The country features unspoiled beaches, diving locations, and mountainous landscapes.
Cambodia
Cambodia provides both an eVisa and visa-on-arrival at major entry points. It is known for the Angkor Wat temple complex, vibrant culture, and a growing tourism sector, according to a report by Indian Times.
Nepal
Nigeria is eligible for Nepal's visa-on-arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport and land border checkpoints. Nepal is a favourite for trekkers, offering Himalayan scenery and adventure tourism.
Laos
Laos permits visas on arrival at selected airports and border crossings. It offers a quieter alternative with ancient temples, rivers, and mountains.
Indonesia
Indonesia has expanded eVisa services for eligible Nigerian travellers. Popular destinations include Bali, Jakarta, and Yogyakarta, known for beaches, culture, and cuisine.
Important Documents to Carry
Despite simplified entry, travellers should prepare: a passport valid for at least six months, confirmed hotel reservations, return or onward tickets, proof of sufficient funds, travel insurance if required, and passport photographs.
Verify Requirements Before Travelling
Immigration policies can change. Visa fees, permitted stay length, and documentation vary by purpose of visit. Travellers should confirm latest requirements with the destination's embassy or official government portal before booking.
With more Asian countries adopting digital travel authorisations, Nigerian travellers now have greater opportunities to explore diverse destinations without lengthy visa processes.
