Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially launched the construction of a major new luxury development in the state capital, marking a significant milestone for investment and urban growth.
A New Chapter for Asaba's Development
On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Governor Oborevwori presided over the ground-breaking ceremony for the Cubana Millennium City. The high-end real estate and commercial project is spearheaded by renowned business mogul, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana. The event took place at Witchtech Junction in Asaba and attracted a high-profile gathering of government officials, traditional rulers, top business executives, and real estate investors from across Nigeria.
In his address, Governor Oborevwori described the project as a powerful symbol of faith in Delta State's future. He stated that such a substantial investment demonstrates growing confidence in the state's stability and business-friendly environment.
"No investor commits to a state unless they trust in its stability," the Governor declared. He credited this confidence to his administration's sustained efforts in maintaining peace, supporting law enforcement agencies, strengthening community ties, and ensuring Delta remains a secure and welcoming place for business to flourish. "Today, we are not just turning the soil—we are turning a new page in the story of Delta’s development," he added.
Vision of a 'Banana Island' for the South
Project champion, Obi Cubana, outlined an ambitious vision for the Cubana Millennium City. He positioned it as the intended "Banana Island of the South-South and South-East" regions, referencing Lagos's iconic affluent neighbourhood.
The master-planned community is designed to be a comprehensive urban enclave featuring several key components:
- Luxury residential homes
- Dedicated commercial districts
- Smart-city technology infrastructure
- Green zones and parks
- Entertainment and leisure clusters
- Premium, integrated security architecture
"We are creating a modern, elegant, secure and lifestyle-forward community that will stand as a benchmark for urban luxury," Obi Cubana explained. He emphasized that the goal is to completely redefine premium living in the region. The businessman also highlighted the collaborative nature of the venture, stating, "Growth is built on collaboration. We are bringing the best minds and partners together to deliver a city that reflects excellence, progress, and opportunity."
He further promised that the development would act as a catalyst for job creation and broader economic expansion, ultimately helping to reshape the landscape and economy of Asaba.
Praise for the Governor's Foresight
In a related development, the Executive Assistant on Community Development to the Delta State Governor, Hon. Benjamin Sharta (DJ Ben), has publicly commended Governor Oborevwori's leadership. Speaking to journalists during a public function in Udu, Sharta described the Governor as a visionary leader who anticipated the state's current trajectory.
"Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori is the man who saw tomorrow," Sharta stated. He elaborated that the Governor had long envisioned a future characterized by peace, stability, equity, and unity for all Deltans, even when such ideas were met with scepticism and criticism from various quarters. This praise aligns with the visible developmental strides being recorded across the state under Oborevwori's administration.
The launch of the Cubana Millennium City stands as a tangible testament to these claims, representing a major private-sector vote of confidence in Delta State's governance and economic prospects.
