The Chairman of the newly established Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has declared that the agency's fresh identity marks a firm dedication to building a more cohesive, effective, and taxpayer-focused revenue administration. He made this statement during the official unveiling of the NRS logo and brand elements on Wednesday in Abuja.
A Milestone for Revenue Administration
Adedeji described the event as a significant milestone in the ongoing evolution of how Nigeria manages its revenue collection. The NRS began operations after President Bola Tinubu signed the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Act 2025 into law in June of the same year. This pivotal legislation effectively replaced the former Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), paving the way for a harmonised approach to revenue generation.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi, the NRS Chairman emphasized that the new visual identity is more than just a symbol. It represents a continuity of the agency's core mission, an enhancement of its institutional capabilities, and a progressive vision aimed at supporting both taxpayers and the nation's broader development goals.
Building Trust Through Service and Transparency
Adedeji firmly reiterated the core principles that will guide the new agency. "The Nigeria Revenue Service remains committed to transparency, partnership, and service excellence," he stated. He further explained that the unveiling ceremony should not be seen as a conclusion, but rather as the start of a more robust and trusting relationship between the revenue authority and the Nigerian public.
"This new beginning is founded on the pillars of trust, clarity, and a shared vision for prosperity," the statement elaborated. The NRS, as the successor to the defunct FIRS, is a central part of the government's strategy to streamline and unify revenue collection across the country.
Expanded Mandate for National Cohesion
The agency now holds a broadened mandate, consolidating duties that were previously spread across multiple bodies. The NRS is officially charged with the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT), corporate income tax, and petroleum taxes. Furthermore, it will also handle various other levies that were once collected by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). This consolidation is expected to reduce complexity and improve efficiency in the national revenue ecosystem.
The launch of the NRS and its identity underscores a strategic shift towards a modern revenue service aligned with global standards and Nigeria's own economic transformation agenda.
