Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Mentored 63 Million Muslims, Family Tells Tinubu
Family: Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Guided 63 Million Muslims

The family of the late revered Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has disclosed that his spiritual guidance and mentorship reached an astonishing over 63 million Muslims in Nigeria and internationally. This revelation was made during a condolence visit by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the scholar's family in Bauchi.

A Legacy of Massive Spiritual Following

Speaking on behalf of the extensive 820-member family, the cleric's successor, Khalifa Sheikh Ibrahim Dahiru Usman Bauchi, provided the details. He explained that for more than 56 years, the late Sheikh organised between five and ten major Islamic gatherings annually.

Each of these events attracted millions of followers, including disciples, students, and devotees. The cumulative attendance over these decades is what accounts for the monumental figure of 63 million people influenced by his teachings.

A Pillar of Peace Amidst Influence

In a significant highlight, the family emphasised that despite commanding this vast following from 1969 until his passing in 2025, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi's record was unblemished by violence. They stated there is no record of him ever instigating unrest, chaos, or conflict within Nigeria.

"His teachings were deeply rooted in peace," the Khalifa affirmed, marking this commitment to non-violence as a cornerstone of the late scholar's enduring legacy.

Presidential Recognition and Renaming

During the visit on Saturday, December 20, 2025, President Tinubu announced a major honour for the late scholar. He approved the renaming of the Federal University of Health Sciences in Azare, Bauchi State, to bear Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi's name.

The President stated this decision was in recognition of the cleric's lifelong devotion to God, humanity, and Nigeria. The family, through Dr. Bashir Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for the visit and for sending top government officials to represent him during the funeral rites on November 28, 2025.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, welcomed the renaming, describing it as a historic honour for the state and a fitting immortalisation of the scholar's values of service and compassion within the educational system.
