Covenant University Economics Graduate Emerges Department's Best Graduating Student With 4.94 CGPA
A fresh graduate of Covenant University has celebrated achieving a first-class degree in economics with an impressive 4.94 cumulative grade point average (CGPA). For her outstanding academic performance, she was recognized as the best graduating student in the Department of Economics, marking the second time she has received such an honor in her educational journey.
From Academic Struggle to Excellence
Ijeoma Ogboh, the Nigerian lady behind this achievement, shared her remarkable story on LinkedIn. She revealed that she entered Covenant University with limited understanding of university life, no concrete plans, and few connections. Her academic performance initially suffered, with her grade point average (GPA) consistently dropping until her second year.
"My GPA kept dropping until 200 Level Omega semester, when God opened my eyes and reminded me that mediocrity was never His plan for me," Ijeoma explained in her post. This divine realization became the turning point in her academic journey.
The Study Secret That Transformed Her Performance
Ijeoma shared the study approach that revolutionized her academic performance. "He taught me to build systems, not just goals, to focus less on 'scoring 25/30' and more on 'studying an hour every day,'" she revealed. This shift in mindset from outcome-focused to process-oriented learning proved transformative.
Through consistent application of this principle, Ijeoma achieved perfect 5.0 GPAs in five semesters, culminating in her final 4.94 CGPA and the distinction of being named the best student in her department.
Balancing Academics With Leadership and Service
Beyond her academic achievements, Ijeoma demonstrated remarkable versatility by balancing her studies with leadership roles and community service. She served as Vice President (Female) of the Nigerian Economics Students Association (NESA), Covenant University Chapter, and held executive positions in her service unit.
"Through the years, I balanced academics, leadership, and service," she noted. "These experiences stretched me, shaped my confidence, and refined my leadership skills."
Additionally, Ijeoma managed a small business, initiated a departmental competition, and progressed to the professional stage of her ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) examinations.
Academic Recognition and Gratitude
This achievement marks the second time Ijeoma has been honored as a best graduating student, having previously received the same recognition at Air Force Comprehensive School. In her LinkedIn post celebrating this accomplishment, she expressed deep gratitude to her support system.
"I'm deeply grateful to my family, friends, lecturers, and coursemates," she wrote. "Teaching others and being asked questions sharpened me more than I imagined. The all-nighters for Macroeconomics have finally come to an end, and it was all worth it."
Inspiration and Future Aspirations
Ijeoma acknowledged several trailblazers who have inspired her journey, including Tony O. Elumelu, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Ibukun Awosika, and other notable figures in economics and business. She expressed her hope to follow in their footsteps and contribute to transforming Africa's economy.
Her LinkedIn post announcing the achievement generated numerous congratulatory messages from peers and colleagues who praised her dedication, leadership, and academic excellence.
