Obafemi Awolowo Future Leaders Fellowship Opens Applications for 2026
Obafemi Awolowo Future Leaders Fellowship Opens

The Obafemi Awolowo Foundation has officially opened applications for the Obafemi Awolowo Future Leaders Fellowship Programme. This highly selective, merit-based initiative draws inspiration from the enduring legacy of Chief Obafemi Awolowo (SAN). The programme aims to cultivate a new generation of ethical, visionary, and impact-driven leaders across Africa, the Caribbean, and the global diaspora.

Eligibility and Objectives

The Fellowship is open to young people aged 20 to 35. It seeks to equip participants with the values, discipline, knowledge, and leadership skills necessary to make meaningful contributions to society. The Foundation announced the initiative during the 2026 Obafemi Awolowo Memorial Lecture on March 6, emphasizing that the Fellowship reflects Awolowo's unwavering commitment to principled governance, social justice, and human development through education.

According to the Foundation, young people across Africa face significant challenges, including economic uncertainty and deep social inequalities. Despite these obstacles, they remain exceptionally talented, innovative, and globally connected. What many lack is structured support, mentorship, and a values-based leadership framework that can transform their potential into tangible impact. The Fellowship was designed to bridge this gap by connecting Awolowo's leadership ideals with contemporary realities in governance, public service, entrepreneurship, and social development.

Participants will engage in leadership development, personal effectiveness training, mentorship, collaborative learning, and practical problem-solving focused on real societal challenges.

The inaugural Fellowship will run for eight weeks, starting on October 4, 2026. Virtual sessions will be held every Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (Nigeria Time, WAT – UTC+1).
