Rotary Club Reconstructs Six Classrooms in Ogun State (20.06.2026)

The Rotary Club of Agbara, District 9111, has reconstructed six classrooms and built a new head teacher's office at Salvation Army Primary School in Idoye, Igbesa, Ogun State, as part of efforts to contribute to the growth of education in Nigeria.

Project Commissioning

Speaking at the commissioning, President of the Rotary Club of Agbara, Rotrarian Fati Odunayo Boluwaji, recalled that the club initially visited the school in October to donate desks and benches, but discovered the school was in a very bad shape and needed urgent reconstruction. He noted that one of the classroom blocks had no roof, with weeds and trees growing inside, and it had become a dumping ground. The only usable block contained three classrooms serving pupils from Primary One to Primary Six, creating a very challenging environment.

Boluwaji added that the club conducted a needs assessment and secured support from partners to execute the project. Over N40 million was spent, covering the rehabilitation of existing classrooms and the construction of a head teacher's office along with an expanded block. He expressed optimism that the new look of the classrooms would improve enrollment in the school. 'We have created a conducive learning environment, supported education growth, and contributed to reducing potential insecurity in the community in the future,' he said.

Rotary's Perspective

District Governor of Rotary International District 9111, Henry Akinyele, noted that while some may see the project as just a structure, Rotary looks beyond the building to the impact on children's dreams. He recalled that when he visited in October, two classes were being taught in one classroom, and during rainfall, pupils had to return home because the classrooms leaked badly. He asked the Rotary Club of Agbara to see what could be done, and they exceeded expectations by transforming an abandoned, roofless structure into modern classrooms. He emphasized sustainability, urging the community to maintain the facilities.

Project Director's Remarks

Project Director, Paul Onabanjo, expressed that when the club first visited, they could not believe children were learning in such conditions. He noted that the president promised the school would be transformed before the end of the year, and the result is now visible.

Community Appreciation

The Baale of Idoye Community observed that the project would have a lasting impact, stating that the renovated blocks are more than walls and roofs—they are a statement that children deserve the best and that Idoye is ready for tomorrow.

Head Teacher of Salvation Army Primary School, Kukoyi Fadilat Mojirade, expressed appreciation, noting that after donating 50-seater benches and tables in October 2025, the Rotary Club has now provided this huge assistance. She pledged that beneficiaries would take ownership of the facilities and ensure proper maintenance for present and future generations.
