The Zamfara State Government, led by Governor Dauda Lawal, has launched a recruitment exercise to fill 3,050 teaching positions in public primary and junior secondary schools across the state. The online application portal opened on July 2, 2026, and will close on July 16, 2026, with no late submissions accepted.
The Committee for the Recruitment of 3,050 Basic School Teachers described the initiative as a direct response to persistent staffing shortages that have hampered educational outcomes, particularly in rural and underserved communities. The exercise aims to deploy qualified teachers to areas most affected by the lack of educators.
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
To be eligible, candidates must be indigenes of Zamfara State, aged between 18 and 35 years, and hold the minimum approved teaching qualification recognized by the committee. The committee stressed that only those meeting these requirements will be considered.
According to a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Maryam Yahaya Shantali, applicants who pass the automated online screening will proceed to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) as the next step in the selection process.
Grounds for Disqualification
The committee outlined several conditions that will result in automatic disqualification: submitting more than one application, providing false or forged documents, failing to complete all required documentation, not meeting the stated qualifications, and declining a posting to a rural community once selected. Officials urged applicants to review the requirements carefully before applying.
The recruitment drive is part of Governor Dauda Lawal's broader agenda to raise the quality of basic education in Zamfara State through the engagement of properly qualified teaching staff. The state government emphasized that the exercise is transparent and merit-based.
Context and Similar Initiatives
This recruitment follows a similar move by Rivers State, which approved the recruitment of 5,000 teachers to enhance education quality. Governor Siminalayi Fubara's administration in Rivers also stressed strict hiring standards for competent educators. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has published a list of teaching jobs with salaries exceeding N50 million, attracting Nigerian educators.
The Zamfara recruitment portal is accessible online, and applicants are advised to complete their submissions before the deadline. The committee reiterated that no extensions will be granted.
