The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released an explainer video on its official X handle (formerly Twitter) outlining three reasons why a candidate's name may be absent from the matriculation list. The board emphasized that the first reason is the most common, while the third is the most critical. The video, posted on Friday, August 28, aims to guide candidates on how to resolve their missing-name status.
Most Common Reason: Admission Not Accepted on CAPS
According to JAMB, the most frequent cause for a candidate's absence is the failure to accept admission on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), or the admission status on the platform reading "not admitted." The board stated, "Number one is the most common, while number three is the most important. You have not accepted your admission on JAMB CAPS or your admission status reads not admitted."
Candidates whose status shows "not admitted" were advised to return to their institutions to have their admissions properly processed. "If it reads not admitted, return to your institution to process your admission," JAMB advised in the video.
Institutions Yet to Forward Verified Matriculation Details
The second reason identified by the board is that a candidate's institution has not forwarded their verified matriculation details to JAMB. The explainer noted, "Your institution admission office has not forwarded your verified matriculation details to JAMB." JAMB urged affected candidates to follow up directly with their institution's admissions office and ensure that their details are submitted through CAPS.
This issue often arises when institutions delay or fail to complete the verification process, leaving candidates in limbo even after their admission has been processed. The board stressed that candidates must proactively engage with their school's admissions office to resolve this.
Most Important Reason: Unprinted Result Slip and Admission Letter
The third reason, which JAMB described as the most important, is a candidate's failure to print their JAMB original result slip and admission letter. The board said, "You have not printed your JAMB original results slip and admission letter." Candidates affected by this issue were directed to visit the nearest JAMB office or an approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre to get the documents printed.
"So visit the nearest JAMB office or approved CBT centre and get it printed," JAMB advised. The board encouraged all candidates to follow its official social media pages for further updates and guidance on resolving these issues.

This announcement follows a recent JAMB explainer on how to accept or reject admission on the CAPS portal. Additionally, JAMB previously identified NIMC errors that can block O'level result uploads, as reported by Legit.ng.
