JAMB Announces Release of UTME Results for April 20, 2026
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results for candidates who participated in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) held on Monday, April 20, 2026. This announcement marks a significant step in the ongoing nationwide examination process, which commenced on April 16 and involves over two million candidates taking computer-based tests at accredited centers across Nigeria.
How to Access Your UTME Results
In a statement issued on Tuesday, JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin confirmed the release and outlined the procedure for candidates to check their scores. "The results for Monday, 20th, have been released. Candidates can view their results using the usual process," Benjamin stated. To access their results, candidates must send the keyword "UTMERESULT" via SMS to either 55019 or 66019, using the same phone number registered during their UTME application. This method ensures a secure and straightforward way for examinees to retrieve their performance data without delays.
Phased Release Strategy and Recent Delays
The release of the April 20 results is part of JAMB's phased approach to result dissemination, which began with the initial batch for candidates who sat the exam on Thursday. Subsequently, a combined batch for Friday and Saturday examinees was issued, though not without complications. The Friday and Saturday results experienced a delay beyond the originally scheduled release date, leading to widespread complaints from anxious candidates awaiting their outcomes.
JAMB later issued an apology for this delay, attributing it to the absence of its chief executive due to official engagements. The board clarified that the delayed results were eventually released on Sunday, April 19, allowing the process to resume smoothly with subsequent batches, including the latest one for Monday examinees.
Importance of UTME in Nigerian Education
The UTME serves as a critical requirement for admission into tertiary institutions across Nigeria, with millions of candidates participating annually to secure spots in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. JAMB has emphasized that it will continue to release results in phases as the examination progresses, adhering to its standard procedures to maintain transparency and efficiency. This systematic approach helps manage the high volume of participants and ensures that result checking remains accessible through established channels.
As the 2026 UTME cycle advances, candidates are advised to stay updated via official JAMB communications and utilize the designated SMS method for result inquiries to avoid misinformation or technical issues.
