Man Who Missed UI Cut-Off in 2001 Finally Graduates

A Nigerian man who applied to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ibadan (UI) after finishing secondary school in 2001 has opened up about his long journey to achieving his dream. He took to social media to share his story after finally graduating as a medical doctor.

Missed Admission Due to Backlog and Cut-Off

The man, identified as Temitope Tayo, explained that after completing secondary school in 2001, he aspired to study Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) at UI, Nigeria’s premier university. However, two major obstacles stood in his way. First, UI was not accepting new intakes that year due to a backlog from the previous set. Second, he did not meet the required University Matriculation Examination (UME) cut-off mark for Medicine and Surgery. As a result, he opted for the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and was admitted to study Zoology at the Faculty of Science.

Second Attempt Leads to UI Admission

While already studying at UNILAG, Tayo wrote another UME in 2002 and successfully gained admission to UI for Medicine and Surgery. He left UNILAG after a year to begin his MBBS program at UI. However, another twist occurred: a challenging life circumstance forced him to defer his studies and join a junior set.
