Tinubu Names Segun Aina as JAMB Registrar

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Ishaq Oloyede, whose tenure ends on July 31, 2026. The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Profile of Segun Aina

According to the Presidency, Aina is a professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, with expertise in digital infrastructure, examination systems, and institutional reforms. He will be 40 years old in July 2026, making him the youngest registrar in JAMB's history.

The statement highlighted his academic background: "Professor Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School."

Professional Experience

Aina has over 15 years of experience advising federal and state governments on digital transformation, institutional reforms, and systems design. He has served as a consultant to examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), particularly on ICT systems and examination integrity.

He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Presidential Expectations

The Presidency stated that President Tinubu expects Aina to build on the reforms and achievements recorded during Oloyede's tenure. "President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board, to take the critical educational organisation beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor," the statement added.
