UNILAG Student Shares Course He Chose After Missing Accounting Cut-Off
UNILAG Student Chooses Education After Missing Accounting Cut-Off

A young man who applied for Accounting at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has shared his JAMB experience online after missing the cut-off mark for his dream course. He revealed the course he eventually chose despite scoring high in the examination.

Dream Course and JAMB Scores

The student, identified as QUAYUM JABAR, explained that Accounting or Economics was his desired field of study. In 2023, he scored 262 in JAMB but did not meet the competitive cut-off for Accounting or Economics at UNILAG. He attempted the exam again in 2024, scoring 250. Following advice from others, he changed his course to Education and Economics, planning to pursue ICAN later to bridge the gap.

Initial Disappointment and Change of Perspective

JABAR admitted that he was initially unhappy with his placement in the Faculty of Education, as he had not aspired to become a teacher. However, during his second semester, he realized that being an Education student is not a limitation but an opportunity to be versatile. He noted that the faculty provides strong specialized knowledge in various disciplines, including Economics, Mathematics, English, Technology, and Physics, making graduates highly adaptable for both educational and non-educational sectors.

Advice from Others

Oguntola Adedolapo advised students to learn actual skills, join investment clubs, participate in competitions, and prioritize achieving a first-class grade. JABAR added that a common mistake is thinking that not getting what one wants means being unproductive with what is received. Demilade Adebanjo encouraged him not to give up on his Accounting dream, noting that ICAN is accessible to everyone. Adeniji Adebola urged him to keep his dream alive and aim for a transition.
