Fed Poly Oko Students Detail Path to Southeast Quiz Triumph
Students from Federal Polytechnic, Oko, have openly shared the strategic preparations and institutional support that led to their victory in a prestigious Southeast quiz competition. The institution triumphed in the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) zonal contest, securing the right to represent the southeast region at the upcoming grand finale in Lagos.
Key Factors Behind the Victory
Nwaneri Gideon Chigozie and Elliot Faith Tonye, both from the Estate Management Department, served as the representatives for Federal Polytechnic, Oko, located in Anambra State, during the hybrid quiz competition. They have attributed their success to several critical factors that set their institution apart.
Supportive Leadership and Vision
In an exclusive interview, Chigozie emphasized the transformative impact of the polytechnic's Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie. He stated that her leadership has fostered an environment of academic excellence, enabling students to compete effectively with peers from other institutions. "Our Rector has revolutionized every department, providing both lecturers and students with the necessary resources and motivation to excel," Chigozie explained.
Modern Facilities and Learning Environment
Tonye highlighted the conducive atmosphere at Federal Polytechnic, Oko, which she believes is instrumental to their achievement. She noted that the administration has equipped all departments with state-of-the-art equipment and materials, ensuring that teaching and learning align with contemporary standards. Additionally, lecturers are regularly sent for refresher courses to update their knowledge, further enhancing the educational experience.
Competition Details and Future Prospects
The ESVARBON quiz competition was organized to commemorate the board's 50th anniversary in April 2026. Each participating tertiary institution in the southeast zone offering Estate Management and Valuation programs was represented by two students. The zonal event took place on March 24, 2026, where Chigozie and Tonye outperformed competitors to claim first place.
Their victory grants them the opportunity to represent the southeast at the grand finale scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in Lagos. ESVARBON, as the federal government-approved regulatory body for estate surveying and valuation in Nigeria, plays a crucial role in licensing qualified graduates for private practice nationwide.
Institutional Achievements and Student Testimonials
Chigozie further elaborated on the polytechnic's recent accomplishments under Dr. Awuzie's leadership, describing it as a renowned institution with a track record of landmark achievements. "Students here are given the necessary exposures to compete well with their contemporaries in other schools," he added.
Tonye echoed these sentiments, pointing out that the elimination of cultism and the encouragement of academic success have created a safe and motivating environment. "We have quality teachers and learning aids, and students are rewarded for excelling in exams and classwork, which drives us to strive for excellence," she said.
The students' insights underscore the importance of institutional support in fostering academic success, as Federal Polytechnic, Oko, continues to build on its reputation for excellence in education.
