The Corona Schools' Trust Council (CSTC) has announced a significant expansion of its initiative for out-of-school children, now reaching the Gangare community. This move marks a pivotal step in the council's ongoing efforts to restore educational access for underserved children across Nigeria.
Initiative Growth and Impact
Originally launched in Ago Egun, Bariga Local Council Development Authority (LCDA), the initiative was designed to tackle the rising number of children lacking formal education. What began as a targeted intervention has steadily broadened in scope and influence, now extending to a new community. With this expansion, the total number of beneficiaries has reached 100 children and continues to grow.
Enrollment Ceremony in Gangare
During a recent inauguration ceremony, CSTC enrolled its first cohort of 25 children from the Gangare Community into St. Theresa Nursery and Primary School in Apapa. This event represented a transformative moment for the children and their families, symbolizing a hopeful new chapter for their futures.
Commitment to Long-Term Support
Speaking on the initiative, CSTC Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Adeyoyin Adesina, outlined ambitious goals. She stated that Corona Schools aims to enroll 75 children in St. Theresa School over the next three years and adopt the school for comprehensive support. "Our commitment goes beyond enrollment," Adesina emphasized. "We plan to support the school with infrastructural development, teacher training, and ongoing improvements."
Adesina further explained, "Our promise to these children is to see them through the completion of primary school, and for those interested, to support them into secondary school. The pain of the government is our pain; we are deeply committed to their future, and we are privileged to partner with this community to make this possible."
Community and Government Collaboration
The initiative has garnered strong support from local stakeholders. The Executive Chairman of Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Jimoh Saliu, commended CSTC for its gesture, describing it as a positive step for the community. He expressed hope for continued collaboration to enhance educational access and quality in the region.
Holistic Support and Outreach
Corona Schools continues to provide holistic support to beneficiaries beyond academic enrollment. In December, the organization conducted a special Christmas outreach for out-of-school children, made possible through generous donations from parents across all Corona school locations. This initiative delivered gifts and festive cheer, underscoring the importance of community and shared responsibility in uplifting vulnerable children.
