Grandmates School Reaffirms Commitment to Holistic Education at Inter-House Sports Meet
Grandmates School has strongly reaffirmed its dedication to holistic education, aimed at producing well-rounded citizens for Nigeria. The school, with branches in Oke Afa and Okota, Lagos, recently hosted its 15th biennial inter-house sports competition, an event designed not only to showcase student talents but also to promote unity, progress, and excellence among the student body.
Event Highlights and Activities
The sports competition was held at the Ansar-u-deen Sports Complex, where students enthusiastically competed in a variety of track and field events. These included races such as 25m, 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, and relay races. Additionally, fun games like sack race, lime and spoon race, balloon race, skipping race, and fill the basket added a lively and engaging dimension to the day. Special races featuring school staff members, parents, and alumni further heightened the excitement and community spirit of the event.
Leadership Perspectives on Holistic Education
Speaking at the event, Director of Grandmates School, Olusola Adepoju, emphasized the school's unwavering commitment to holistic education. He described the competition as a vital platform for developing well-rounded individuals, noting that sports play a crucial role in instilling discipline, resilience, courage, and teamwork in students. "Education goes beyond the academics in the classroom. Today is about building character through teamwork, discipline, and resilience," he stated, while urging students to compete with integrity and sportsmanship.
Mrs. Adenike Adepoju, Chairman of the Sports Committee, highlighted the importance of sports in shaping confident and disciplined children. She explained that the competition, themed "Together we move: Power, play and pride," serves as an avenue for discovering new talents while promoting unity and fair play. She commended the school's management, parents, teachers association (PTA), and all stakeholders for their unwavering support, stressing the need to continue nurturing students who excel both academically and socially.
Community Engagement and Awards
Chairman of the occasion and PTA Chairman, Comrade Uche Ohaji, praised the enthusiasm displayed by the students and described the event as a celebration of unity, discipline, and sportsmanship. He encouraged participants to value fair play and active participation over winning, while also advocating for greater integration of sports into the educational curriculum to enhance overall student development.
A major highlight of the event was the colourful march past by the four houses: Red, Green, Yellow, and Blue. Red House emerged victorious in the march past, followed by Green and Yellow houses. In the overall competition, Blue House clinched the championship title, with Green House securing second place and Yellow House finishing third.

Mrs. Aderibigbe Kikelomo, a school official, expressed elation at the students' performance, praising the teamwork behind the event. She noted that such activities are instrumental in building confidence, discipline, and social skills among students. "The Grandmates School Inter-House Sports Competition remains a key feature of the academic calendar, reinforcing the values of physical fitness, teamwork, and excellence among students," she remarked.
