Lagos Community Celebrates Inauguration of First Public Secondary School
Residents of Abaranje, a rapidly expanding area within Alimosho Constituency II in Lagos, gathered on Saturday to witness a historic event: the inauguration of their first public secondary school. The commissioning of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Secondary School marks the end of a prolonged period during which the community lacked a public secondary institution, finally granting children the opportunity to access formal education closer to their homes.
A Legislative Milestone Achieved
This project has been widely recognized as a significant legislative achievement for Mr. Kehinde Joseph, the lawmaker representing the constituency. In his welcome address, Joseph revealed that the inspiration for the school stemmed from a directive he received in 2015 from Senator Oluremi Tinubu. "In 2015, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, charged us to always put the people first and work tirelessly for their benefit," he stated, emphasizing that this message has fundamentally shaped his approach to public service. He dedicated the new facility to the students and urged them to protect it as a communal asset.
Government Commitment to Educational Excellence
Representing Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, reaffirmed the administration's dedication to the Eko Excel programme. This initiative focuses on enhancing teaching quality through structured training and professional development. He highlighted that the one-storey school building was constructed to high standards to foster an environment conducive to effective learning and academic success.
Praise from Legislative Leaders
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, commended Joseph for successfully completing the project, noting that effective representation requires a keen responsiveness to the needs of constituents. "It is not just about the building, but about the capacity, ability, and dedication he shows on the floor of the House," Obasa remarked. He also encouraged residents of Alimosho to support the lawmaker in future elections, describing him as a strong and valuable member of the Assembly.
Collaborative Efforts for Social Development
In a keynote address delivered by her representative, Alawiye King, Senator Oluremi Tinubu praised the collaborative efforts between the state government and the lawmaker. She emphasized that the school, designed to accommodate more than 700 students, will not only promote learning but also contribute significantly to social development. "This project will not only provide education but will also help depopulate gangs and violent groups, while giving our children the opportunity to attain their fullest potentials," she asserted, underscoring the broader societal benefits of the new educational facility.
