In a powerful address at a festive gathering in Lagos, a leading Nigerian educator has called for a comprehensive approach to preparing young learners for the challenges ahead.
Total Education: A Foundation for the Future
Mrs Ayoola Akinyeye, the Director of Schools at Chrisland Schools, advocated for what she termed 'total education' during the institution's Variety Night and Joint Christmas Concert. The event, held on 24 December 2025 in Lagos, carried the theme "The Gift of Love."
Akinyeye emphasized that the season transcends religious boundaries, serving as a universal reminder of compassion. "It's a season that calls us to love one another, be kind to one another, and show different ways that we can express that love or kindness," she stated. She highlighted that love and kindness are core values actively taught within the Chrisland system, describing kindness as a profound expression of love.
A Grand Showcase of Talent and Unity
The concert was a massive display of unity across the school group's extensive network. Chrisland Schools operates 16 schools across 16 campuses. The Lagos event saw participation from 12 of those campuses, drawing students from across the metropolis.
The participating schools included:
- Two campuses from Festac
- Three from Victoria Garden City (VGC)
- One from Lekki
- One from Idimu
- Two from Ikeja
The remaining four schools, located in Abuja, held a simultaneous event of their own, underscoring the nationwide reach of the institution.
Celebrating Skills and Shared Joy
Also speaking at the event, Mrs Kehinde Aluko, a member of the school's advisory board, shed light on the concert's purpose. She explained that it was a platform for children to enjoy themselves, exhibit the diverse skills and talents they have honed over their academic years, and provide entertainment for their parents and other guests.
The advocacy for total education at this festive forum underscores a growing belief among Nigerian educators that holistic development—combining academic excellence with strong character and values like love and kindness—is essential for equipping children to thrive in an unpredictable future.
