Ndili Foundation Awards Full Scholarships to 21 UNN Students for Leadership and Academic Excellence
In a significant recognition of academic achievement, the Ndili Foundation has inducted 21 students from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) into its prestigious scholarship leadership and academic program. The students, selected from various departments across the university, will benefit from comprehensive support designed to cultivate future leaders and enhance their educational pursuits.
Comprehensive Support for Scholars
The scholarship package includes full tuition coverage, mentorship opportunities, and additional support aimed at helping recipients excel academically and develop leadership skills. This initiative is part of a broader effort to invest in young Africans who view education as a tool for societal responsibility rather than personal advancement alone.
Key Messages from Foundation Officials
During the induction ceremony, Prof. Petra Nnamani, the foundation's Director of Scholarships and Grants Directorate, emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards. "Don't let anything bring you down and always stay passionate, intentional, and driven as you are today," Nnamani urged the scholars. He highlighted that the selection was based on rigorous academic records, with the goal of supporting both the students and society at large.
Dr. Amaechi Ndili, Chairman of the foundation, framed the scholarship as a profound responsibility. He advised beneficiaries to avoid wasting their talents on insignificant pursuits, stating, "You must never waste your gifts on living a small life," which he described as consuming much but contributing little. The program is specifically designed to nurture individuals who leverage education for meaningful impact.
University Leadership Celebrates the Initiative
Prof. Simon Ortuanya, the Vice-Chancellor of UNN, praised the event as a celebration of excellence, hard work, and vision. He noted that this first cohort consists of 21 students out of a planned total of 50 beneficiaries. The foundation's support extends beyond tuition to include accommodation, stipends, and mentorship, providing a holistic approach to student development.
Ortuanya reminded the scholars that the scholarship is not merely a free pass to a degree but a mark of distinction. "It places a responsibility on you for sound character, unwavering values, and the initiative to become change agents," he asserted. He encouraged them to fully engage with mentorship and leadership opportunities, fostering responsible relationships within the university community.
Encouragement for Broader Development
In the keynote address, Prof. Anthony Attama, Director of Academic Planning, urged the students to focus on competence, creativity, and character. He emphasized that in today's world, a certificate alone is insufficient; students must go beyond exam success to master their disciplines and contribute to societal development. This call to action underscores the program's aim to produce well-rounded individuals prepared for future challenges.
The Ndili Foundation's scholarship program represents a significant investment in education and leadership at UNN, setting a benchmark for similar initiatives. By supporting these 21 students, the foundation aims to inspire a new generation of leaders committed to academic excellence and positive societal change.
