In a significant boost to educational development in Lagos State, the Rhoda Youth Centre has provided comprehensive scholarships and vital learning materials to more than one hundred pupils across the Ikorodu Division.
Scholarships and Essential Supplies Distributed
The philanthropic exercise, which took place over three days from December 27, 2025, directly benefited two pupils selected from each of the over seventy public primary schools within the division. Each beneficiary received a substantial package designed to support their academic journey.
The distributed items included:
- School bags and uniforms
- Twelve 40-leaf exercise books and one 20-leaf writing book
- A drawing book and five pencils
- Two pairs of white socks and a pair of sandals
Furthermore, in a standout gesture, Praise Emmanuel from African Bethel Primary School, Maya, was awarded a full scholarship that will cover his entire primary and secondary education. Additionally, Local Government Primary School, Oreta, received KG tables and chairs.
A Strategic Reach Across Six Centres
To ensure widespread access, the distribution was conducted strategically across six different centres within the Ikorodu Division's Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). The venues were:
Methodist Primary School in Ikorodu; Methodist Primary School in Igbogbo (Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA); Methodist Primary School in Oke-Eletu (Ijede LCDA); L.G. Primary School in Imota LCDA; Cherubim & Seraphim Primary School in Ogolonto (Ikorodu West LCDA); and Farm Settlement Primary School in Odogunyan (Ikorodu North LCDA).
Building Confidence and Securing Futures
Founder of the Rhoda Youth Centre, Asiwaju Rotimi Erogbogbo, explained the vision behind the initiative. He stated that the program is designed to be continuous, with a new set of beneficiaries to be added next year while continuing support for the current ones.
"Our intention is to give them confidence; to make them not feel inferior among their peers," Erogbogbo said. "A pupil with a good uniform and writing materials in class will be bold and confident, which aids their overall development."
He emphasized that the centre aims to bridge the gap where parental limitations might jeopardize a child's upbringing and future, adding that they are deeply concerned with the children's etiquette and holistic upbringing.
Erogbogbo, who is the immediate past Chairman of the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS), also took the opportunity to commend government interventions aimed at maintaining standards in public schools.
Government Applauds Private Sector Support
The initiative received commendation from government officials. The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Development, Comrade Lekan Biliamin-Oba, praised Erogbogbo's consistent societal impact, describing it as a challenge to the younger generation to contribute more.
Oba, who revealed he had previously benefited from the Rhoda Youth Centre's leadership training, lauded the founder for complementing government efforts in providing essential learning materials. This public-private synergy underscores a shared commitment to uplifting educational standards and empowering the youth of Ikorodu for a brighter future.
