6,000 Students Attend MSSN Lagos 115th Islamic Course

Thousands of Muslim students from across Lagos State recently converged for a major faith-based learning and development programme. The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, successfully hosted its 115th Islamic Vacation Course (IVC), drawing an estimated 6,000 participants to its campsite in Noforija.

Global Realities Meet Eternal Values

Held under the timely theme Global Realities: Eternal Values, the annual camp aimed to equip young people with the tools to navigate contemporary social and economic pressures while staying rooted in ethical and spiritual principles. The Amir of MSSN Lagos, Kamoldeen Abiona, explained that the theme was chosen to address the need for stable moral anchors in an increasingly uncertain world. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade facilities at the Noforija campsite, including accommodation and worship areas, to better serve future programmes.

Leadership and Mentorship Take Centre Stage

A key focus of the event was preparing attendees for future leadership roles. Fuad Kayode Laguda, a member of the House of Representatives representing Surulere Constituency I, addressed the students on the critical importance of mentorship. He urged them to actively seek guidance from experienced individuals as they chart their academic and professional journeys. Laguda also emphasised civic responsibility, arguing that positive change requires active participation from the youth.

Modupe Kadiri, the Chief Financial Officer of MTN Nigeria, delivered a powerful message on discipline and personal standards. She cautioned against a growing culture that prioritises convenience over genuine commitment. In a competitive global environment, Kadiri stressed that sustained learning and meticulous attention to detail are non-negotiable for young professionals preparing to enter the workforce.

Resilience and Unity in Focus

Other notable speakers reinforced these messages. The Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, and education consultant Dr Zafaran Adeniyi encouraged students to remain resilient and focused despite prevailing economic and social challenges. Former MSSN Lagos Amir, Dr Saheed Ashafa, spoke on the power of knowledge and unity in solving modern problems. Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Ibrahim provided historical context, drawing lessons from Islamic history on the importance of constructive civic engagement.

A Secure and Enduring Legacy

Organisers assured that security was a top priority throughout the event. Personnel from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police Force were deployed to ensure safety at the campsite. The Islamic Vacation Course, which has been held for decades, remains one of the largest student-focused faith programmes in Lagos State. MSSN Lagos stated that the massive turnout reflects the continued desire among young Nigerians to blend academic ambition with moral integrity as they prepare to lead in various spheres of society.
