Healthcare, technology, and agriculture have emerged as the top job sectors across Nigeria's regions, according to a new report by Nairametrics. The findings highlight significant regional variations in employment preferences and opportunities.
Regional Preferences Unveiled
The report, which analyzed job rankings across the country's geopolitical zones, shows that healthcare leads in the South-West and South-East, while technology dominates in the North-West and North-Central. Agriculture ranks highest in the North-East and South-South.
In the South-West, healthcare accounted for 28% of job preferences, followed by technology at 23% and agriculture at 15%. Similarly, the South-East showed a strong inclination towards healthcare (26%), with technology (20%) and education (12%) following.
Technology’s Stronghold in the North
The North-West and North-Central regions recorded technology as the top sector, with 25% and 24% of job preferences respectively. This reflects a growing digital economy in these areas, driven by tech hubs and startup ecosystems.
Agriculture remains a dominant sector in the North-East, representing 30% of job preferences, and in the South-South at 22%. The report attributes this to the regions' agrarian economies and the federal government's agricultural initiatives.
