Ogun TESCOM: Teacher Redistribution Aims to Fix Imbalance, Not Punish
Ogun TESCOM Explains Teacher Redistribution Goal

The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has moved to clarify the rationale behind its ongoing staff redistribution exercise in public secondary schools, stating it is a corrective measure and not a form of punishment for teachers.

Addressing Deployment Lopsidedness

In a statement released on Friday, the Chairman of TESCOM, Apostle ‘Biodun Sanyaolu, explained that the primary objective is to rectify long-standing imbalances in teacher deployment across the state. He emphasized that the action aligns with the statutory mandate of the Commission and supports Governor Dapo Abiodun's Revitalisation Agenda (ISEYA) for the education sector.

Sanyaolu pointed out that the current norm has created a significant disparity where some schools enjoy a surplus of teaching staff, while many others, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas, suffer from severe understaffing. This imbalance, he noted, has falsely fueled the narrative that Ogun State lacks enough teachers, which is not the accurate situation.

Ensuring Fairness and Career Growth

The TESCOM chairman assured that the redistribution process was meticulously planned. He stated that available subject teachers are being deployed based on required ratios, with a strong consideration for equity and fairness. A key factor in the decision-making is addressing cases where teachers have remained in a single school for extended periods.

"The Commission has taken into account the need for fairness, especially for teachers who have spent over five years in one school. In fact, we have instances of teachers who have remained in the same school for over 20 years," Sanyaolu revealed.

Expected Outcomes of the Exercise

Sanyaolu outlined the anticipated benefits of the redeployment, which include:

  • Promoting professionalism among teaching staff.
  • Enhancing teachers' career development through varied experiences.
  • Ultimately improving the overall quality of education delivered to students in public secondary schools statewide.

He made a heartfelt appeal to all affected teachers, urging them to accept their new postings in good faith. He encouraged them to report promptly at their new duty stations, highlighting that this cooperation is vital for the progress of the education sector and the overall development of Ogun State.
