Federal University Dutsin-Ma Rusticates 20 Students Over Exam Malpractice
The management of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State has taken decisive action against academic dishonesty by approving the rustication of twenty students found guilty of various forms of examination malpractice. According to a statement released by the university's Information and Protocol Director, Nasiru Abdul, the rustication will take effect from the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session. The decision followed a thorough disciplinary procedure where the affected students were given the opportunity to appear before a dedicated Disciplinary Committee to defend themselves against the allegations.
The committee's findings and recommendations were subsequently submitted to the university's Senate for formal ratification. This process ensured that all procedural requirements were met, emphasizing fairness and justice in handling the cases of academic misconduct.
Senate Approval and Legal Basis
The Senate of Federal University Dutsin-Ma officially approved the rustication during its 138th Regular Senate Meeting, which was held on Wednesday, 11th March 2026, at the Twin-Theatre on the Main Campus. The Chairman of the Senate and Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Khalid Othman, emphasized that this decision aligns with Section 13.3, subsection 13.3c of the University's Policy on Examination Irregularity and Academic Misconducts.
Professor Othman praised the members of the Disciplinary Committee for their dedication to enforcing FUDMA's examination misconduct policies and for ensuring adherence to due process, fairness, firmness, and justice throughout the investigation. He highlighted that the Senate's ruling aims to send a clear message to all students about the importance of academic honesty and the severe consequences of attempting to circumvent university regulations.
