AAU Denies Student Involvement in Ekpoma Kidnapping Protest
AAU: Protesters Are Not Our Registered Students

The management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) in Ekpoma, Edo State, has publicly distanced itself and its student body from a recent protest against kidnapping in the area. The university insists the demonstrators were not its registered students.

University Issues Strong Disavowal

On Monday, 5 January 2026, the institution released an official statement clarifying its position. The statement was signed by Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, the Principal Assistant Registrar and Head of Information, Protocol, and Public Relations for the university.

Aladenika stated categorically that the individuals who organised and participated in the peaceful protest are not recognised by the university. He emphasised that the university management has formally dissociated both AAU and its legitimate students from the demonstration.

Protest Details and University's Stance

The protest was staged earlier by angry youths and students in Ekpoma over alleged incessant kidnappings plaguing the locality. The demonstrators aimed to draw government attention to the persistent insecurity.

However, the AAU spokesperson was unequivocal in his denial. "The University wishes to inform the general public, students, staff, and stakeholders that the organisers of this event are not registered students, members of the University Students’ Union Government, or affiliated with the institution in any capacity," the statement read.

He further declared the protest "null and void" and urged everyone to disregard it and continue with their legitimate activities.

Management Condemns Disruption, Vows Action

The university management condemned any attempt to disrupt the peaceful academic environment of the institution. Aladenika warned that such unauthorised actions would be met with appropriate measures to safeguard the university's interests and maintain order on campus.

"They do not have the authorisation or right to represent the university or organise activities in its name," he asserted regarding the protesters.

The statement concluded with an appeal for cooperation from students, staff, and visitors to help maintain peace and stability. It also assured that adequate security arrangements had been made to prevent any disturbances following the incident.
