Ajayi Crowther University Issues Strong Warning to New Students on Drug Abuse and Misconduct

Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) in Oyo has delivered a firm caution to its newly admitted students, strongly advising them against engaging in drug abuse, indiscipline, and other detrimental behaviors that could severely undermine their academic progress and moral development. The warning was formally issued during the university's 21st matriculation ceremony, which welcomed 864 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Zero-Tolerance Policy Emphasized by Vice-Chancellor

During the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebunoluwa Oduwole, explicitly stated that the university maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards any form of misconduct. She warned that any student found guilty of such actions would face appropriate sanctions, underscoring the institution's commitment to upholding high standards of behavior and integrity.

Professor Oduwole extended her congratulations to the new students and their parents, highlighting that admission into Ajayi Crowther University represents a significant milestone. She described it as a valuable opportunity for students to not only acquire academic knowledge but also to develop a sound moral upbringing, which is essential for their overall growth.

University's Vision and Core Values

The Vice-Chancellor elaborated on the university's vision, which is built on two fundamental pillars: deep intellectual development and practical spiritual education. This dual focus aims to produce well-rounded graduates who are equipped to excel both professionally and personally. She urged the matriculating students to remain dedicated to their academic pursuits and to consistently uphold the core values of discipline, integrity, and responsible conduct throughout their time at the institution.

Academic and Infrastructure Enhancements

In addition to the warnings, Professor Oduwole highlighted the university's ongoing initiatives to expand academic programs and enhance learning facilities. A notable development is the introduction of certification in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for students, designed to equip them with modern digital skills that are increasingly relevant in the evolving global economy.

She also noted that the university management has taken proactive steps to improve student welfare by upgrading essential amenities. These improvements include enhanced water supply, reliable electricity, and better hostel facilities, ensuring a conducive environment for learning and personal development.

Guest Lecturer's Advice on Academic Integrity

Earlier in the ceremony, the guest lecturer, Professor Bimbola Oludipe, addressed the students, encouraging them to take full responsibility for their learning and to maintain integrity throughout their academic journey. She described matriculation as the formal entry into a community founded on scholarship, discipline, and character.

Professor Oludipe emphasized that "admission is not the achievement; graduating with honour, character, and purpose is." She further cautioned the students against engaging in examination malpractice, plagiarism, drug abuse, and other activities that could jeopardize their academic future and personal reputation.

The matriculation ceremony served as a pivotal moment for the new students, setting clear expectations for their conduct and academic endeavors at Ajayi Crowther University.
