BUK Expels 171 Students for Admission Fraud in Sweeping Academic Integrity Action

In a decisive move to uphold academic standards, Bayero University Kano (BUK) has expelled 171 students for falsifying their admission credentials. This disciplinary action, aimed at preserving the institution's integrity, was approved during the university Senate's 433rd meeting held on March 4, 2026.

Senate Committee Report Leads to Expulsions

The decision followed a thorough review of a report submitted by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities. According to a statement published in the university's weekly bulletin on Friday, the affected students were found to have presented falsified credentials during their admission process.

The university's statement read: "The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), at its 433rd meeting held on March 4, 2026, has approved the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission entry qualifications."

Violation of University Regulations

The university noted that this offence constitutes a clear violation of Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which prescribes expulsion for such misconduct. The affected students cut across different departments and academic levels, highlighting the widespread nature of the issue.

This action is described as part of ongoing efforts to sanitize academic records and ensure that only qualified candidates gain admission to the institution.

Additional Expulsion for Examination Assault

In a related development, the Senate also approved the expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a student from the Department of Civil Engineering. He was expelled for alleged involvement in physically assaulting invigilators during an examination.

The institution stated that this incident not only disrupted the conduct of the examination but also violated its regulations on student discipline, further emphasizing its commitment to maintaining order and respect within the academic environment.

These expulsions underscore BUK's firm stance against academic dishonesty and misconduct, sending a strong message to the student body about the consequences of violating university policies.
