Covenant University Implements Comprehensive Dress Code Regulations
Covenant University has officially published an extensive list of dress code rules that all male and female students must adhere to, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote a moral and healthy campus environment. These regulations, detailed in the university's student handbook accessible via the school portal, specifically target indecent dressing and outline prohibited items and behaviors.
Key Prohibited Items for Students
The dress code, found in Chapter 7, Section 6 of the handbook, spans pages 113 to 118 and includes several strict prohibitions. For female students, skirts must be below the knee, specifically 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) lower, while male students are barred from wearing jumpy trousers or any trousers above the ankle. Additionally, piercing is heavily restricted; female students may only have their ears pierced, and male students are not allowed any piercings at all, with exceptions requiring declaration during admission.
Further Restrictions on Accessories and Body Modifications
Jewelry and body modifications face stringent rules. Male students are completely prohibited from wearing neck chains, hand chains, toe rings, and finger rings. Female students, on the other hand, are banned from ankle chains and toe rings. Tattoos are not permitted for any student, and those with existing tattoos must declare them before admission to avoid severe penalties.
Specific Clothing and Footwear Bans
The university also addresses specific clothing styles. Sagging, defined as pulling trousers below the hip line, is prohibited for male students, while female students are warned against wearing tubes, camisoles, or any attire that reveals parts of the chest. Notably, bathroom slippers are banned in academic buildings and the library, though they are allowed in residence halls.
Penalties for Violations
On page 119 of the handbook, Covenant University outlines disciplinary actions for dress code violations. The university reserves the right to impose penalties ranging from warnings to suspension or expulsion, depending on the severity of the offence. This enforcement is part of a broader set of rules aimed at maintaining order, which also prohibits behaviors like stealing, cultism, and vandalism.
The release of this dress code follows Covenant University's previous publications on student conduct, reinforcing its commitment to upholding standards within the academic community. Students are encouraged to review the handbook thoroughly to ensure compliance and avoid disciplinary measures.
