Covenant University Attributes Student's Death to Undisclosed Heart Condition

Covenant University has officially stated that the death of one of its students, Jestunmise Toluwase, was caused by a prior undisclosed heart condition. In a detailed statement released on Wednesday, the university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy A. Anake, provided a comprehensive account of the tragic incident that occurred on Monday, April 6, 2026.

Details of the Incident

Jestunmise Toluwase, described as a diligent and vibrant student, was participating in a student football training session on the university campus. During the game, he stepped out to rest after complaining of leg pain and fatigue. His football teammates later observed him gasping for breath and acted swiftly by transporting him to the Medical Centre's emergency unit, which was conveniently located directly opposite the playing field.

Unfortunately, by the time he arrived at the facility, Jestunmise had stopped breathing. The medical personnel responded immediately, administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with an automated external defibrillator (AED). Despite all efforts to resuscitate him, these attempts were unsuccessful, and he was subsequently certified clinically dead due to the prior undisclosed heart condition.
