Edo Governor Okpebholo Reshuffles Cabinet, Pledges N2 Billion and Buses to University
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has executed a minor cabinet reshuffle, redeploying the Commissioner for Works, Dr. Felix Ehiguese Akhabue, to the Ministry of Water Resources. This move was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, on April 7, 2026.
The statement directed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works to oversee its affairs until a new commissioner is appointed, with the directive taking immediate effect. This reshuffle reflects the governor's ongoing efforts to optimize administrative efficiency within the state government.
Governor Pledges Significant Support to Edo State University
In a separate development, Governor Okpebholo has pledged N2 billion to support infrastructural development at Edo State University, Iyahmo. He made this announcement during the inauguration of the Ehi-Agenmonmen Business Administration E-Library and the ground-breaking ceremonies for a State-of-the-Art Health Centre and an Ultra-modern Fitness Centre at the university.
The governor commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Victor Adetimirin, for his sacrifice and commitment to advancing the institution. He specifically praised Prof. Adetimirin's decision to donate his first full month's salary towards the construction of the health centre, describing it as a remarkable act of dedication.
"If the Vice-Chancellor can donate his first full month's salary towards building the State-of-the-Art Health Centre, then the government will have to do much more," Okpebholo stated.
Donation Includes Buses and Recognition of Contributions
In addition to the N2 billion pledge, Governor Okpebholo announced a donation of two Toyota Hiace buses and two CNG buses to the university. This support aims to enhance transportation and operational capabilities at the institution, furthering its educational mission.
While thanking the Vice-Chancellor, Okpebholo noted that such sacrifices demonstrate a strong commitment to educational development. He also acknowledged the contributions of a parent, Saliu Lawal, who sponsored the architectural design for the new facilities, highlighting the collaborative efforts driving progress at the university.
This initiative underscores the governor's focus on bolstering higher education and infrastructure in Edo State, aligning with broader goals for regional development and academic excellence.
