Nigeria Unveils EIBIC Entrepreneurship Program in 14 Federal Universities

On Friday, March 27, 2026, the Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Education, officially launched the Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Business Incubation Certification (EIBIC) program. This initiative is set to be piloted in 14 federal universities across the country, with plans for expansion to all 74 federal universities by 2027, and further extension to federal polytechnics and colleges of education by 2028.

Compulsory Entrepreneurship Development Scheme

The EIBIC program is a mandatory entrepreneurship development scheme specifically designed for students in higher education institutions. It is seamlessly integrated into their academic curriculum, running from their first year through to graduation. The framework provides a comprehensive approach, including early-stage exposure during orientation, continuous entrepreneurial training, and access to incubation, mentorship, and funding opportunities.

Through a structured progression from idea generation to business creation, students receive robust support to establish viable enterprises before they complete their studies. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be awarded an additional entrepreneurship certificate alongside their academic degrees, enhancing their employability and entrepreneurial capabilities.

Minister's Directive and Implementation Timeline

During the unveiling ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced that the 14 selected federal universities are expected to commence the EIBIC program before the end of 2026. He issued a firm directive to the Vice-Chancellors of these institutions, urging them to expedite the approval process within their respective senates.

"I am directing you all on or before the end of April; all your Senates must approve this programme. This is a directive that I am not going to take lightly. I will call, and there will be consequences because we are in a hurry to get this programme to our youth," Dr. Alausa emphasized, highlighting the government's urgency in rolling out the initiative to benefit young Nigerians.
